Who are we looking for?
The Manager, Taxation and Compliance is responsible for the overall administration of the tax policy for the Life Alliance. This individual develops and implements policies, procedures and programs for tax administration. They will oversee, lead and monitor the work of the associates on the tax team to ensure work is completed in a timely and accurate manner. They are responsible for minimizing the impact taxes have on company earnings, cash resources, investments and employee benefits through accurate and timely tax compliance, research and planning. They will manage Internal Revenue Service reporting, state income tax reporting, state premium tax reporting and communication requirements concerning payments to policyholders.
How will you contribute?
Manage overall administration of tax policy for the Life Alliance.
Prepare/review current and deferred tax calculations and supporting schedules.
Responsible for timely and accurate federal and multi-state compliance for income and premium taxes, including effective coordination with external accounting firms used for tax return preparation.
Manage and coordinate tax research, planning and miscellaneous projects. This with the aim of minimizing tax costs to the company.
Direct and assist in federal, state and local tax audits. Prepare work papers for the Internal Revenue Service. Manage the administration of the Internal Revenue Service and state tax examinations for the Life Alliance.
Assist internal and external auditors on tax related audit issues. Provide requested audit evidence and analysis on a timely basis.
Provide tax consulting services to various business units for multiple tax types (i.e. income, property, sales & use).
Manage the selection, hiring, training, developing, coaching and counseling of tax department staff, ensuring attainment of AAA Life affirmative action goals.
Assist in preparation/review of tax sharing agreements for the Life Alliance.
Connect with Life Alliance club owners regarding various tax attributes of the Life Alliance’s legal entities and their connection with consolidated returns of the club owners. Assist the tax staff at the club owners with IRS or state examinations as required.
Administration of financial statement tax-related footnotes & disclosures, both on a US GAAP and statutory basis, considering the various state requirements of the Life Alliance’s legal entities
Acts as a tax liaison & representative for the Life Alliance.
Monitor & analyze new tax legislation, tax cases, regulations and other Internal Revenue Service releases and advise senior management where appropriate.
Provide detail analysis, evaluation and implementation of value-added tax planning ideas for all Life Alliance entities.
Manage annuity benefit payment and federal and state withholding process for policyholders and beneficiaries including 1099 and 1042 reporting.
Provide tax analysis of company acquisitions, divestures and other significant transactions.
Review financial statement tax provisions and deferred taxes under SFAS 109/ASC 740 for enterprises with multiple entities and sub-consolidated groups simultaneously issuing several, separate financial statements.
Act as a technical resource throughout the organization and across various functions; serving as a consultative business partner to client. This includes such items as assisting the CFO and Human Resources department in analyzing tax aspects of compensation and benefit plans.
Coordinate and manage the communication with other business units as it relates to tax rules and regulations and the impact on their operations.
Communicate effectively with members of senior management, State Insurance Department, Internal Revenue Service and other regulatory agencies, internal and external auditors and industry representatives.
Prepare, review and manage others in the compliance area with respect to consolidated federal and state income tax returns.
Manage effective tax rates and allocate consolidated federal tax liability among subsidiaries in accordance with the various methods provided in the Internal Revenue Code.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What do you offer?
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Tax is preferred.
Minimum seven years’ general experience in an Accounting or Finance position with a concentration in Corporate Tax required.
Life insurance or other insurance company taxation experience much preferred.
Minimum five years’ experience in a supervisory role.
