Who are we looking for?

 

The Operational Risk Management (ORM) Specialist will support the ongoing development of the Enterprise Risk Management Program, which includes enhancing and overseeing the application of operational risk policies and processes, technology and tools, and governance processes to create lasting solutions for minimizing losses resulting from failed internal processes, people, systems, and external events.

 

The ORM specialist will be accountable for risk identification, analysis, monitoring, and reporting.

 

The ideal candidate will have a business operational background, strong risk assessment and mitigation experience, and continually developing risk assessment, data analytics, practical business, and industry skills and knowledge.

 

This position is a hybrid role and requires three days in the office in either our Livonia, MI or Boston, MA locations.

Responsibilities

How will you contribute?

  • Work collaboratively with business functions in identifying, assessing, and monitoring operational risks.
  • Train and coach associates on operational risk management best practices.
  • Support business areas in the review of operational events, root cause analysis, ensuring appropriate actions are taken to remediate risks and prevent recurrence.
  • Support business areas in documenting risks, challenging action plans and ensuring timely mitigation.
  • Oversee regulatory inquiry responses by tracking and managing regulatory deliverables.
  • Validate adequacy of controls through the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process and escalate deficiencies as appropriate.
  • Support the ORSA process including collaboration with Actuarial and Finance. Provide independent challenge on the model, assumptions and stress testing performed.
  • Facilitate quarterly operational risk management meetings to drive continued development and building of a risk management culture.
  • Develop and deliver training content to drive awareness and understanding of risk frameworks and processes.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and potential risk areas.
  • Build collaborative and productive working relationships across the company to establish, maintain, and continuously improve operational risk management capabilities and promote risk awareness.
  • Support the Director of Risk Management regarding all aspects of the enterprise-wide risk management program.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve the team efforts and departmental infrastructure in pursuit of Operational Excellence.

Qualifications

What do you offer?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience.
  • Knowledge of the COSO Enterprise Risk Management Framework preferred.
  • Life insurance knowledge and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent quantitative analytical skills.
  • Ability to think critically and independently, devote significant attention to details, remain highly organized, and clearly communicate complex materials to management.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion.
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a professional and harmonious team-oriented working relationship with co-workers, business unit personnel and management, and external contacts.
  • Proficient with personal computers and in using Microsoft Office software products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
