Overview

The Manager, New Business Operations is responsible for the management and coordination of associates responsible for all activities related to processing and underwriting of new business applications in accordance with established guidelines. May administer agent licensing, appointment and termination process. Provides a moderate level of expertise regarding the technology and procedures utilized in application processing. Implements policies, procedures and guidelines for processing. Performs analysis, problem resolution and support for application processing and underwriting. Interacts with agents and vendors to resolve problems or concerns. 

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of the New Business and Underwriting operations area.
  • Has responsibility for functional areas of the operation to deliver on key objectives and performance goals.
  • Communicates procedures and standards of performance expected of assigned staff, consistent with established guidelines. Assures that adequate resources are sought and available to accomplish current and planned goals.
  • Plans and organizes short- and long-term activities of staff to achieve established goals, consistent with cost-effective measures.
  • Implements new and enhanced procedures for application processing in partnership with upper leadership.
  • Prepares analysis reports regarding the benefits and cost effectiveness of proposed procedures or systems.
  • Provides and presents reports regarding department performance for senior leadership and develops action plans based on the analytics of those reports.
  • Analyzes the operating results of assigned functions and develops innovative approaches to improve performance or resolve problems. Assures that standards are maintained consistent with cost-effective objectives.
  • Must anticipate team needs and assure that they are handled prior to implementation of changes in procedures, products, technology, organization structure, performance measures and other important business adjustments.
  • Able to write and follow detailed project plans and report on outcomes and issues on an ongoing basis.
  • Works as a partner with internal and external sales teams to ensure that sales objectives are met.
  • Interacts with internal audit and compliance to ensure that corporate guidelines and state regulations and assures that business controls are in place and executed consistently.
  • Leads a variety of projects interacting with a variety of internal departments and external contacts.
  • Interacts with a variety of vendors utilized by the company including reinsurers, lab vendors, paramedical firms, technology companies and a variety of other relationships utilized in the processing and underwriting of business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience.
  • FLMI, ACS, CLU, FALU, AALU or some financial services industry coursework strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of Life Company products and operations.
  • Familiar with automated life insurance systems.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and internet applications.

For the states of California, Colorado, New York and Washington the pay scale is $76,745.00 to $115,117.00 and pay scales may vary based upon location.
